UNION AFFILIATIONS
The CFMEU in NSW is affiliated to
Unions NSW.
All NSW unions are affiliated to Unions NSW, which is
the peak trade union organisation in the state.
Unions NSW also has regional councils in Wollongong,
Newcastle and other major centres.
At a national level the CFMEU is affiliated to the
Australian Council of
Trade Unions (ACTU).
The Secretary of the CFMEU Andrew Ferguson is on the
Executive of Unions NSW.
The union has a delegation that attends weekly
meetings of Unions NSW (Thursday nights) and regularly
raises concerns of members and broader trade union and
community issues.
If you want to attend Unions NSW as a delegate
contact the
union. The CFMEU is also affiliated to the
Australian Labor Party
(ALP). It was trade unions that formed the ALP
in major strikes in the 1890’s.
The union is often critical of the right wing
policies and direction of the ALP but we see merit in
participating in ALP forums and conferences. Every year
a delegation of CFMEU officials and activists attend the
annual state conference of the union raising issues of
concern to union members.
CFMEU Secretary Andrew Ferguson is an elected member
of the Executive (Administrative Committee) of the ALP.
Many CFMEU activists are active in the left of the
ALP, i.e. the NSW Socialist Left.
If you want to join the ALP
contact the
union for advice and assistance.
The CFMEU is affiliated to many other social, political
and community organisations for example:

International,
