 TOP-UP 24 HOUR INSURANCE - U-PLUS
The CFMEU has campaigned and successfully negotiated with
hundreds of employers to pay into workers compensation top up and 24
hour accident insurance. This insurance is provided by U-PLUS for members.
U-PLUS
provides extra workers compensation benefits for workers injured in
accidents and also outside of work. More than 20,000 workers are
covered by U-PLUS. This insurance tops up workers
compensation payments, pays additional lump sums for
serious accidents and pays wages to workers who have
accidents outside of work. It is a great CFMEU benefit.
Outside of the building and construction industry, it is
very rare for workers to be covered by this type of
insurance and benefit.
The union includes in all its enterprise bargaining
agreements (EBA’s) provision for employers to pay U-PLUS
insurance for employees. Many employers who do not have
an EBA have taken out U-PLUS insurance so as to avoid
disputation with the union.
