CFMEU Retired Members Association celebrates a very successful year

On Thursday 30th November, after attending the Your Rights At Work meetings and a meeting of our own Retired Members Association (at which the CPSU explained the impacts of the sale by the Federal Government of Medibank Private) members gathered at the CFMEU Lidcombe complex for an end of year celebration.

And the CFMEU Retired Members Association participants certainly has plenty to celebrate.

During 2006, apart from attending monthly meetings, our members participated in:

- Combined meetings with other unions’ retired members, with a vision to becoming an effective lobby group;

- Rallies, broadcasts, doorknocking and leafleting for Your Rights At Work;

- The Marginal Seats Campaign;

- Picket lines at Warwick Farm, the Opera House & Botany, and plenty of protest letters to government;

- Memorial services at the Memorial to Workers Killed at Tumbalong Park and at the new CFMEU Memorial Wall;

- Our inaugural Retired Members Green Bans Tour, hosted by the CFMEU and led by Jack Mundey (a fantastic day)..

All members leaving the industry with more than ten years union membership are very welcome to join our group, which meets every 4th Tuesday of the month at 10am at the CFMEU Lidcombe Office (phone Wendi on 9749-0406 if you want to come along). We encourage you to REMAIN UNION, REMAIN ACTIVE!

This year the CFMEU Retired Members Christmas Party was also a resounding success, as can be seen in the following photo gallery.

The CFMEU Retired Members Association wishes all members the very best for the festive season, and a resounding disposal of John Howard’s Government in 2007.
