Why was the apprentice registration rebate introduced?

The apprentice registration rebate has been introduced by the NSW Labor government as part of a package of measures to make apprentices more attractive to young people in order to address serious skill shortages in the traditional trades. The rebate will act as an incentive for young people considering an apprenticeship as a career choice.

A rebate of $100 is available on the cost of registering a vehicle.

Who will be eligible for the rebate?
The rebate is available to first and second year apprentices registered with the NSW Department of Education and Training. The rebate is available for vehicle registrations or registration renewals paid from 1 July 2005.

Where can I get an application form?
The application form will be available on the RTA web site at www.rta.nsw.gov.au, follow the links to “RTA Forms Facility”. The form will be available from 1 July 2005.

Can I claim a rebate on a vehicle I purchased and transferred to my name?

If you make your claim after completing the second year of your apprenticeship the NSW Department of Education and Training will not be able to verify that you are a second year apprentice and your claim will not be processed.
