How much is the rebate?
A rebate of $100 is available on the cost of
registering a vehicle.
Who will be eligible for the rebate?
The rebate is available to first and second year apprentices
registered with the NSW Department of Education and Training.
The rebate is available for vehicle registrations or
registration renewals paid from 1 July 2005.
Where can I get an application form?
The application form will be available on the RTA web site
at www.rta.nsw.gov.au,
follow the links to “RTA Forms Facility”. The form will be
available from 1 July 2005.
Are there any restrictions on the vehicle for which a claim
may be made?
Yes the vehicle must meet the following criteria, it must
be:

registered in NSW |
 |
registered only for general private or general
business use |
 |
have
been registered in the name of the apprentice at the
time the registration fee and motor vehicle tax were
last paid. |
Can I claim a rebate on a vehicle I purchased and transferred
to my name?
If you do not renew the registration on transferring the
vehicle to your name you cannot claim the rebate. You will be
able to claim the rebate when your registration is due for
renewal. You must pay the registration in the normal way and
then claim the rebate.
Is there a time limit on claiming the rebate?
You must be eligible for the rebate ate the time you make
the claim. That is, if you are a second year apprentice, you
must make the claim before you complete the second year of you
apprenticeship. If you make your claim after completing the
second year of your apprenticeship the NSW Department of
Education and Training will not be able to verify that you are a
second year apprentice and your claim will not be processed.
How will the rebate be paid?
The rebate will be paid by electronic funds transfer into a
deposit account in your name at a bank, credit union or building
society. Payments may be made into accounts held in joint names.
Your bank statement will indicate if your rebate has been paid.
What if I disagree with my apprentice status?
The NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) will
verity your eligibility for the apprentice registration rebate.
If DET is unable to verify that you are a first of second year
apprentice you will receive written advice that your application
cannot be processed and advising you to contact DET for further
information regarding your apprentice status.
